Wow. We did it. Completion of production of Pirouette. Wow.

In the late summer of 2014 I started this website. A couple of entries into the blog I shared with the world that I would give Clown his own story. (Clown was a small character in "The Trip" my senior thesis). I drew Clown and promised myself that I would try to make his short the best I could at the time. To go all in. To make mistakes and grow in the process. To actually do the thing that made me get in this animation world in the first place.

Make my own animated shorts.

(this is my first drawing of Clown post "the trip" originally his head was really big.

Well approximately 3 years later after a whole lot of trip ups and failures and successes Pirouette is completely animated.

The last stage of course is clean up/Vfx/editing and rendering but for me the moment the film is shot I feel relief. In 4 back ups and a couple computers is my short. It's there. I have it. it exists.

Wow.

I want to thank Aaron Umetani for lighting  Pirouette. It was awesome to have someone this time around who knew how to light proper. I learned a lot working with him and can't wait to use what I learned on my next short.

I also want to thank Sean Malony. For providing animation with me. It was nice to have a second animator there so I could finish quicker then just doing it by myself. It also felt good to finally direct someone other then myself. Thank you Sean I learned so much directing you. I still think you animated the best shot in the short even if you think I did. We are even 🙂🙃🙂

Sean knows things that I don't know. I know nothing. I follow Socrates.

Prior to Pirouette my first 2 shorts were shot in my apartment or childhood bed room or in my college's weird storage space. This time I was lucky to shoot it in Apartment D, which is the awesome new studio run by Sean Malony and Max Lopez (still can't believe when I was making The Trip Max was my stop motion Internet pen pal wowza)

Thank you Apartment D for letting me shoot in you studio for a month. :) I am forever grateful.

As I shot the last image in Pirouette yesterday afternoon I felt like I stepped into a new world 0-0. For so long this project was my rock. It was the thing I ran home to work on every night after work, it was the thing I spent 12 hours a day on during the past 3 months on unemployment. It was some thing to get excited about and ponder everyday. Now it's real. Wow.

Wow.

Before I forget I want to thank Clown. This little character came into my life when I was alone, in the summer of 2012. He's gotten a little less odd 5 years later but he still is really important to me. And I'm so very grateful that I was able to give him life. Even after my eating disorder, thank you for sticking around awesome idea, little clown character. yep.

So where's my head now? Well for one I need to actually finish finish. So there's that. For the next month or more probably (going back to a day job soon) I'll be in post land. And after I plan on sending Pirouette around as many festivals as I can. Period.

Clown Version 1. The Trip. This guy is 5 years old. Wow. (lost his brows so he's borrowing nice clowns brows)

But. When it comes to art I'm going to re-open my etsy store. And yes my next short is already being brainstormed....

Yeah.

yeah. I'm going to make another one.

To anyone with an idea. Go ahead and make it. :)
